Common Questions
1.) How do I start my organization website?
All recognized student organizations may host their websites at the
university. All required organization paperwork must be on file and approved by
the Associate Director of Student Life & Activities. Download the
Website Authoring Request form to begin the process of establishing your web
presence. After your form is filled out, you may bring it by SUL 324C or SUL
324E for processing. Processing can take up to 5 business days.
2.) How do I access my student organization website and begin making changes?
Microsoft FrontPage is the suggested method for managing and creating your
organization website. Detailed instructions to login to
your website are available online.
3.) Do I have to use Microsoft FrontPage?
You may use the software of your choice to produce your web pages. You must,
however, use Microsoft FrontPage to move your web pages into your organization
account so that the public can view them. This means that there is no FTP
available on the servers that host student organization web pages.
4.) I don't have a copy of Microsoft FrontPage software, what do I do?
As a result of licensing agreements between Purdue University and Microsoft,
current students are able to purchase FrontPage for $10 in the campus bookstore.
You must provide a current schedule and an ID to obtain the software at the
discounted price.
5.) I have no experience building websites, where do I begin?
You may request an appointment with a web specialist to learn the
fundamentals of building your website. You are not required to know any
scripting or computer languages if you use Microsoft FrontPage. If you are
familiar with using Microsoft Word you will learn the basics of Microsoft
FrontPage relatively easily.
6.) Are all of the user-friendly wizards functional in FrontPage?
Yes. FrontPage Extensions are installed on the server that enable all of the
wizards and other special functions available in Microsoft FrontPage such as
discussion boards, e-mail forms, and searches to operate properly.
7.) How many student developers can have access to a particular student
organization website?
Up to four (4) student developers can have access
to a student organization website account. For security purposes each student
developer must have completed the
Student Organization Member Web Server User Account Request form to have
unique permissions to each student organization website account.
