Project Employment
Project Employment Overview
- Due to previous Project Employment success, the Office of Vice Chancellor
for Student Affairs has agreed to financially support the initiative again
this year. Many departments have
submitted information regarding projects they would like to see completed in
their areas, but do not have staff or budget to complete. Project employment
affords the opportunity to put those projects in place.
- Project Employment works similarly to a paid internship where a
department will utilize a student that possesses skills or education that is
closely related to the work that needs to be accomplished.
- For example, a department may hire a student who is studying computers and
web page design to update a department website. The student receives valuable
experience that he or she may include on his or her resume.
- Project Employment Contribution: Student Employment will supplement the
cost of student wages for chosen projects at 50% of the project, not to exceed
$1500.00/project. If your student works more than the projected number of
hours for this project, your department will be responsible for wages above
and beyond what is stated in this request.
Benefits of Project Employment
This initiative enhances student life on campus by giving the student work
experience in their field which helps to build their resume for job searching
upon graduation. It also helps the student to network with faculty and staff to
obtain mentoring and reference possibilities as well as to support Goal I of the
Strategic Plan by employing more students on campus, and Goal IV of the
Strategic Plan in developing more experiential learning opportunities for our
students. Criteria for Judging Proposals and Awarding Project Employment
